About Us

The Dorset Ramblers is a small independent club which was founded over 70 years ago.  Its main purpose is to arrange a series of Sunday walks throughout the year in Dorset and the neighbouring counties.  On almost every Sunday we organise a group walk somewhere in Dorset, or sometimes in nearby parts of Devon, Hampshire, Somerset and Wiltshire.  This part of England offers varied and unspoilt countryside and spectacular rural and coastal scenery.

There is always a Sunday morning walk, which normally starts at 10.15 and often a shorter afternoon walk.  Walks are planned as either circular, or “figure of eight” routes with distances (for the day) of between 5 to 12 miles.  There are normally about 10-18 people on our Sunday rambles.

We walk for the simple pleasure and enjoyment of being out and about in such wonderful countryside. Accordingly, we walk a moderate pace with pauses to appreciate our surroundings and to get our breath back on hill tops!  Lunch stops are usually arranged at a café or a pub, or sometimes a picnic stop is made en-route.

We are a small friendly club and always ready to welcome new members.  Non-member day-visitors are welcome to join us for an initial walk or two prior to deciding whether to join the club. Please note the group has public liability insurance cover, members are not covered for personal accident. The membership fee is modest.

Please note that, for safety and insurance reasons, dogs cannot be allowed on any of our organised walks.

We offer a varied Social Programme that is well supported.  A summer outing further afield is offered and we also usually arrange a group holiday, sometimes abroad, each year.  Our members are engaged and informed via the Club News and Events pages of our website or by post.

Members may also be interested in the well-researched Walking in England website which has thousands of free walks to download and print.  It has walks from Cornwall to Cumbria to Kent and from one to twenty miles and is packed with useful information.  Links take you to walking books, maps and many other UK walking groups.
